this gospel of peace:
-
Sin is anything that goes against God’s perfect nature and design. The Bible teaches that all humans have sinned, meaning we’ve chosen our own way instead of God’s way. This sin separates us from God.
• Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
• Isaiah 59:2: “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you.”
Sin isn’t just about “big” wrong actions—it’s a heart issue. It’s the selfishness, pride, and rebellion that cause brokenness in our relationships with God, others, and ourselves. Without God, this brokenness is something we can’t fix on our own.
-
Because God is perfectly just, sin must be dealt with. The consequence of sin is eternal separation from Him—spiritual death.
• Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
• Hebrews 9:27: “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”
Judgment isn’t about God being unfair; it’s about Him upholding justice. Just as we expect wrongs to be punished in a court of law, God must judge sin. However, His judgment is not the end of the story—His love provides a way out.
-
God’s love for humanity is so great that He made a way to save us. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the punishment for our sins by dying on the cross. His resurrection proves He has power over sin and death.
• John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
• Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are offered forgiveness and reconciliation with God. This isn’t something we can earn—it’s a gift we receive by faith. When we trust in Jesus, our sins are forgiven, and we are given eternal life with God.
• Ephesians 2:8-9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
• John 14:6: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
